Using images from an old reel of amateur film, bought on e-bay, this personal work dwells on a place in Poland, where Jews were once a larger part of the population and have completely disappeared in the aftermath of their return. [ × ]
In some cultures it is said that if you can cross the water with a ligted candle, you might be able to save the world, just as the poet in Nostalghia by Andrej Tarkovsky did, in the final scenes of the film, before dying. This homage to both Tarkovsky ́s, father and son, was filmed on the main island of the Azores just before the pandemic arrived in Europe. [ × ]
Inspired by La Disparition by Georges Perec, a novel written without using the letter “E”, this work is made from a re-editing of the classic French film A Bout de Souffle by Jean-Luc Godard, with the main character, played by Jean-Paul Belmondo, missing. What is left from this absence is our cinematographic memory which instinctively tries to fill in the void around which everything seems to revolve. [ × ]
Taking found reels of unknown people and, with a minimum of editing, re-presenting what was previously intended for a family circle, other types of readings are created by trying to recognise places, by identifying ourselves with similar moments in our own family contexts, or even by envying that reality lost somewhere in time and in the memory of others than us. And, suddenly, we realise that their memory has become ours. [ × ]
