Pilar Monsell, Córdoba (1979), is a filmmaker, scriptwriter, editor and researcher. She holds a Master’s degree in Creative Documentary Film and a Master’s degree in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Her first work, Distancias, received the Audience Award at the 49th Festival dei Popoli 2008 in Florence. In 2012, she finished the short film Pan, trabajo y libertad, which premiered at the International Film Festival – Doc Lisboa. Her first feature documentary Africa 815 won the Exhibition Award at the Festival Márgenes 2014, Best Documentary Zinegoak Bilbao 2015, Special Jury Mention at CEME DOC Mexico, Panorama Platja D’Aro Award at the Festival L’Alternativa de Barcelona 2015 and has had a long career in international festivals. In 2017, her short film Dos sueños después won the Special Jury Prize at the Malaga Film Festival and the Honourable Mention at the Fronteras Destruidas Section of the Lima International Independent Film Festival, the Nomination for Best Documentary Short Film at the ASECAN Andalusian Film Awards and the Aide Aprés Realisation from the French CNC for self-produced short films. In 2018-2019 she works as a director for La Sexta TV and premieres the TV documentary ELLAS, receiving the Triángulo Cultura COGAM Award for Best Direction. That same year, she premiered her short film Una revuelta sin imágenes, which received an Honourable Mention at the FIDBA Buenos Aires 2022 and was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film at the ASECAN Awards 2020, after having premiered at the New York Film Festival and having been screened at numerous festivals in America and Europe.
