Ruth Montiel


Ruth Montiel Arias, Palmeira (A Coruña) 1977, graduated in Applied Arts from the Pablo Picasso Higher Education School of Arts in A Coruña. She completed the Master of Concept and Creation Photography EFTI, Madrid and the Master of Corporate Identity at the Elisava School of Design, Barcelona.
Her personal projects investigate the human relationship with the natural territory and its conflicts derived from animal, environmental and social domination and oppression. Her work has been exhibited in cultural institutions such as the Cultural Center of Spain in Lima (Peru), Landkreis Galerie in Germany or the Casa de Mono Foundation in Cali (Colombia). On a national level her work has been seen in La Casa Encendida, Matadero, the Cristina Enea Foundation in Donostia, MAC in A Coruña, Cidade da Cultura in Santiago de Compostela, as well as in national galleries such as Galería Cero, Galería Liebre, La New Gallery or Noestudio in Madrid, and international ones like the Moproo gallery in Shanghai, China. Her work has been selected in different art competitions, as well as in scholarships and national and international artistic residencies such as Futures Photography 2020 (Photoespaña), Resident Cultura 2020, Best Photo Essay Lifestyle of the Ottawa International Vegan Film Festival 2019, among many others.


For the Galician section of the festival, we are committed to a heterogeneous selection in terms of styles, formats and profiles, pursuing the traces of a cartography of the inhabited that is projected from the digital, the dystopian, the intimate, the physical and the cultural.
