Félix Fernández

bio

In the artistic practice of Félix Fernández, research on the contents is always a priority, to which the form adapts by reinforcing the message, in constant communication and empathy with the viewer, in a quest to be a mirror where the public feels reflected.
His way of approaching art is through a deep analysis and questioning of our society, focusing on how we can be affected by socio-political, technological, environmental or mass-media issues when they go beyond the public sphere, filtering into the most intimate and existential aspects of our lives.
He is especially interested in the possibilities art offers for social transformation and that is why narrative elements that help him convey the message in a non-elitist and inclusive way underlie all his work. Both the self-portrait and the self-fiction are communicative forms that he has made use of on countless occasions, putting the body and the autobiography at the service of essays where he can reflect on more generic aspects of the contemporary being.
Félix Fernández has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo and is simultaneously trained in contemporary dance, performance and sound-musical production.
He has been awarded grants by spaces and institutions such as La Casa Encendida, the Gas Natural Fenosa Museum, the Galician Choreographic Center, the Addaya Center d’Art Contemporani, the DT Scenic space or the INJUVE. His works have been awarded by the Community of Madrid, La Casa de Velázquez, the Encontro de Artistas Novos da Cidade da Cultura or at the Canariasmediafest Festivals or the Ourense International Film Festival, among others.
His work has been exhibited at the Museum of the Americas, Washington, the National Museum of Carthage, at DA2 in Salamanca, at the Art Claims Impulse Gallery in Berlin, at the Charlotte13 Gallery in Leipzig, at the Kunstlerhaus in Dortmund, Germany, at the Cultural Centers of Spain in Montevideo and Lima, at the MARCO of Vigo, and at El Museo Gallery in Bogotá, among others.
In the last 5 years, he has developed his musical career in parallel under the pseudonym Jëan Fixx, he also manages his space-laboratory at the Galician rural called Present Continuous Camp / Lab and is a founding member of the RPM Collective, a Galician collective dedicated to innovative management of cultural projects around the living arts.
