Escolas: Xatería

txt

The passing of time went through a population increase in the cities. Cities become the nerve center of society, of a future of “progress”, where to emigrate to, where to look … But views change. The advent of globalization makes us turn our attention to a former, despised life: life in the villages.
City vs Rural. A dichotomy that now presents itself to us and on which we want to reflect. Can the rural be future? Is rural a good option? What is the rural?
Xatería derives from “xata”, the breeding of cows, they are the ones that really inhabit the Galician countryside, they revive it. If we, as a human species, want to return to that life, we must do it like them. We are cows, we are Xatas and, as such, we must train in Xatería. Thus, this imagined term emerges as a great metaphor for the term “school.” The Xatería is that space where to grow, where to show ourselves, where to return. The Xatería is where the Xatas can manifest their metamorphosis towards the great bovine artists that they all are.
Through this exhibition we bring together artists and pieces that show different perspectives of rural areas. Contributions that come from the sentimental, the intimate, the criticism or the exaltation; showing the link or the lack of it; that make you reflect around him; that speak of any aspect that can encompass the term rural. A collective exhibition that through different disciplines connects the visions of artists from around the world, more than 15 artists. Thus, Adrián Salgueira, Ana Sánchez, Antón Zaera, Cinema Semente, Cristina Chiarroni and Rokekes, Daniel Emmanuel Iglesias, Daniel Selas, Elvira Martos, Inma Veiga, Laura MS, Lil Chachi, Nora Galván, Santiago Barandiaran, Seares and Telarete are the selection of artists that make up this Xatería.
